A Piece of History- Pleasant Hill Consolidated School (opened 1938) is a representative xample of school architecture in South Carolina during the 1930s. It is exceptional in that the site contains not only a consolidated grammar and high school, but also a gym/auditorium, a cannery, and a home economics/farm-shop classroom building. Pleasant Hill Consolidated School is made up of 3 1 level brick buildings connected by 2 covered walkways. The 3 buildings were the grammar school, auditorium/gym (central block), and high school. The central block, a front gable rectangular structure, has a gabled porch which projects from the building. The porch has 3 round arches; the center arch is larger than the flanking arches. Each arch has decorative detailing in brick and limestone. 2 double doors with Palladian fanlights lead into the buildings. Both schools are u-shaped. The cannery and home economics/farm-shop buildings are located behind the high school. Interior detailing on the buildings in preserved throughout.
